Luis Vega Lugo

Biography

Luis is a Ph.D. student in Bioengineering in the Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Notre Dame, where he is a recipient of the Kinesis-Fernández Richards Fellowship. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, with a minor in Project Management, from the University of Puerto Rico - Mayagüez. During his undergraduate studies, Luis worked on the research and development of coaxial nozzles for core-shell structure fabrication for biomedical applications, as well as the design and integration of mechatronic arm prosthetics. He also worked as a Project Manager for the R&D of Formula-type vehicles (FSAE RUM), handling logistics, 5S lean manufacturing, and design compliance. He will be conducting research in the Roeder lab, focusing on biomechanics, biomaterials, and tissue engineering to address challenges in the field of Orthopedics.
