TIME Lab Research Scientist Dr. Golnaz Asaadi Tehrani recently published her work on epigenetic therapy for glioblastoma (GBM) in Scientific Reports. The study shows how both pan- and selective histone deacetylase inhibitors (HDACis) sensitize 2D and 3D human GBM models to standard chemotherapy. Interestingly, these therapies also repolarize immunosuppressive tumor-associated myeloid cells from pro-tumor to anti-tumor. Thus, this preclinical work offers a new approach for both microenvironmental reprogramming and improved therapeutic response in this intractable cancer.
